A trash compactor provided the source
of a fire that caused a customer evacuation during business
hours. Heat traveled through a chute and set off the sprinkler
system, dousing clothes and other merchandise, West Allis
Fire Battalion Chief Greg Dufek said. The fire did not
spread to the rest of the building.
The cause of the fire
was undetermined, and store employees had not yet estimated
damage.
