January 2003
Reinhart Food Store, lacrosse

LaCrosse Fire DepartmentThe fire department responded to a fire in the freezer section of Reinhart Foods, a major supplier of food stuffs in the tri-state area. Upon arrival, firefighters found two sprinklers activated, nearly extinguishing the fire. Electric heat tape used to keep a drain open on a ceiling evaporator overheated and ignited the surrounding insulation and pallets and foodstuffs below. There was no fire damage to the building but monetary damage to foodstuffs was high. Without the sprinklers, the fire would have been very difficult to extinguish and would have resulted in serious damage to the building.

Jeffery L. Brohmer, Division Chief of Inspection, LaCrosse Fire Department
