SOUTHWEST METAL FINISHING, NEW BERLIN
Around 8:45 p.m., about 100 employees were in the metal
finishing plant when a fire started inside duct work that
collects and filters aluminum dust.
According to New Berlin’s Assistant
Fire Chief Fred Schultz, the flames raced into the plant
causing heavy damage to several robots and other equipment
in the roughly 58,000 square-foot plant in the 2400 block
of south Calhoun Road.
Schultz credited the fire sprinkler system with saving the
plant from total loss in the blaze.
